Anyone with a skerrick of intelligence, knew taking on AUKUS after a day’s deliberation, was a decision based purely on political considerations. There was no time for it to be anything else.

Essentially, it is just a group of people persisting with a project, despite it having no benefit to the people. In fact, quite the contrary.

AUKUS does however benefit a host of people in the weapon’s manufacturing business and those whose political agendas are served by moving Australia further to the Right. Both these interest groups resonate on the same frequency.

Labor: the party of war-mongering

Labor’s Treasurer Chalmers, has proudly announced an $8 billion expansion of the HMAS Stirling naval base. US and UK nuclear submarines will be “rotating” in and out of Rockingham, making the area a nuclear target if things get ugly.

Labor have also ensured the procurement of sea mines, Himars, Sikorsky (Lockheed Martin) UH-60M Black Hawks, and permitted nuclear-capable B-52s to operate out of the NT’s Tindal base. There has also been the expansion and renovations at military bases and airfields.

Then there’s the $5 billion given to the UK submarine industry.
