Scene – Employment agency…
Employment agency interviewer: Nice to see you again Dave. Have you thought about what kind of work you’d be interested in pursuing?
Dave: “Yeah.”
Employment agency interviewer: “Great. What are we thinking? Retail? Manual labour?”
Dave: “The Army.”
Employment agency interviewer: “Oh, interesting. I think I have some leaflets about the Irish Army.”
Dave: “No, no, it’s not the Irish Army I’m interested in.”
Interviewer: “The British Army?”
Dave: Sorry? Who do you think I am? The Devil? I want to join Hamas.
Interviewer: ” Oh Jesus. Dave, I just mostly sort people out with Aldi, hairdressers, things like that. To level with you, I wouldn’t have many contacts in the Islamist militant world.”
Dave: “My mind’s made up.”
Interviewer: “Dave, this is a bit nuts. And anyway, I just wouldn’t imagine Hamas are on the lookout for Irish lads in their 40s.”
Dave: “Well, we have to do something.”
Interviewer: “Are they not a terrorist organisation?”
Dave: “Ha! Terrorists? Let me show you the terrorists. Here’s what Israel’s been up to over the last 10 months.” [Shows the interviewer clips of the Israeli genocide on his smart phone]
[One minute later]
Interviewer: [Now with a Palestinian keffiyeh draped around his face] “Let’s go!”
